"The 2008 campaign, it seems, will be waged on the basis of personality, not political philosophy. If the magic works, all will be forgiven. But if it doesn’t, the recriminations could tear the party apart."
Paul Krugman gives the same argument I've been trying to make (though with far less aplumb)... Now, convince me he isn't right.

Krugs needs to stick to writing columns about domestic policy or economics....he's a terrible political pundit!
He he truly thinks (wrongly) that the election will be foremost about personality, then is he seriously saying that Obama is the weaker choice?! No matter who you want to win, I think it's hard to argue that Hillary comes across as having a better "personality".
But that's besides the point, because of course policies will matter. The only reason they haven't yet is because Clinton's and Obama's are so close. And that's why I think her campaign strategy is completely screwing the Democrats, even if she wins the nomination.
Her attacks against Obama are recycled right-wing talking points that will for sure be used by McCain. So if Obama is the nominee, he'll already have a slam-dunk campaign commercial just by compiling soundbytes of Hillary's attacks. But worse, if she wins, then McCain can claim that he is the better choice based on HER standards for what's important in a commander-in-chief. Right now she's trying to win by telling people that the most important thing is who has the most experience and who will prevent your children from being nuked at 3AM or whatever. But does she seriously expect to use these arguments against MCCAIN?? She's just going to end up, awkwardly, in the position Obama's in now.
Back to my original point... There are plenty of good arguments against Obama, but the one that he's too "nice" or "timid" to get anything done is just weird. Like him or not, the guy obviously has ambition and wants to accomplish big things. He just wants to use the "nice boss" approach rather than the "dickhead boss" one.
I'm really doubting it right now, but I hope this can all be over tonight!
