FOOOBALL!!!

As luck would have it, I flipped past the Superbowl in the last 10 minutes of the 4th quarter last night, and decided to watch the rest of it since it was a close game and the Giants were up by 3. It was actually one of the most entertaining sports games (er..quarters) I've ever watched (not all that many). But the most interesting thing about this year's NFL season is how much everyone HATES the Patriots. I don't really understand it....being a really good team is all they've done wrong. The whole thing seems kinda weird to me considering how much Americans love winners. I could see some resentment of their success in Canada maybe, but that's one of those little cultural differences between our countries.....down there, from everything I've seen, it's completely acceptable to be mighty successful and mighty proud of it. Unless you're a sports team, apparently. I guess that in America, the only thing more loved than a winner is a comeback.

I don't think American do love winners. I think they love (seeming) underdogs. Look at the Red Sox fans. Until last year, they hadn't been real contenders in, what, like a gazillion years.

Look at all the attention Huckabee got for a month. He was totally the underdog at many points along the campaign trail, and then suddenly everyone was like, oh, yeah, look at that guy.

What I find ultra funny about this topic is that I just opened up a new tab to google "Americans love underdogs" and 118,000 entries came up.

that was actually a really good quarter of football. i also dont give a shit about sports and still found it super entertaining.

it is also kinda cool that the peyton brothers quarterbacked 2 different teams to consecutive super bowls.

A lot of people hate the Lakers too. Historically, they've been a highly successful team.

Wasn't NE accused of spying a while back? I've heard some people moaning about how the greater Boston area has experienced enough sporting success already with the Celtics and Red Socks.

1) It's funny you you guys live together but are communicating through the comment section of a blog.

2) "peyton" and "manning" are both ridiculous first names, so no worries.

3) The fact that Americans hate all the winning sports teams was kinda my point. Granted they love underdogs more than anything, but to me it seems to go against the whole "American dream" thing. What's wrong with admiring a team for being way, way better than any of their competitors? Isn't that what America aspires to as a country?
