Did "The West Wing" predict this year's election?

The final season of the TV show "The West Wing" was about a young, visible minority member of congress who decided to run for president. He lacked experience but gave really good speeches. To win the nomination, he had to triumph over the party's frontrunner who enjoyed a massive lead and was assumed to be the natural pick. But he won, and then went on to face a very old, maverick republican in the general election.

Sound familiar?

See a video that compares real life to the TV show here.

Main difference: In the TV show, the contest (obviously) went on to an intense brokered convention.

On a side note, I should mention that I really enjoyed the final season of this show. Seasons 1-6 were okay but the sentimental patriotism was a quite nauseating and Aarron Sorkin is a ridiculously cheesy writer. But Season 7 feels (and looks) totally different from the show up to that point.....it's presented more or less as a mock documentary about the behind-the-scenes of a presidential campaign.

I don't care what any of you Canucks say, West Wing was an awesome show. Well written, intelligent and inspiring. Yes, the tone was, shall we say, a bit sentimental, but why does this have to mean cheesy (and by B's definition, bad)? Every piece of media is an expression of the generation and tribe of both its creators and audience. And just because something isn't satirical and ironic, the way media geared toward our demographic is, that doesn't make it not worth watching or enjoying.

I agree with you more than disagree...it was a well-done show by most standards. From a production standpoint (directing, editing, etc.) it's generally considered by TV industry people to be one of the highest quality shows ever made. But the first few seasons are cheeeeesy. It's not the "setimental" stuff that kills me, it's the cornyness. But it did get better towards the end. Make Brad watch season 6 and 7. And if you don't believe me on the cheesy thing, here's an easy way to prove it: watch a season 7 episode, then immediately after watch a season 1 episode. I rest my case.
